Welcome 2018 Profiles Project Participants!

The following information is designed to prepare you for the 2018 Clarivate Global Institutional Profiles Project data collection process.

WHAT'S NEW

The Intellectual Property & Science division of Clarivate is now Clarivate. Read more about the brand change here. We are excited about our new brand, but through the Profiles Project, now in its ninth year, just as excited to continue building a multidimensional and unbiased comparison of all aspects of university performance.

DATA COLLECTION PERIOD

Profiles Project data collection will begin in early April and continue through May 31, 2018

PROJECT DATA USE

As we enter year nine of the Profiles Project, once again the data collection and preparation will help support these initiatives:

  1. Clarivate is the data provider for the US News - Best Global Universities Rankings, produced to provide insight into how universities compare globally. The Best Global Universities rankings – which focus specifically on schools' academic research and reputation overall – can help students accurately compare institutions around the world.

Should your university be ranked by US News, data collected through the Profiles Project will be used to populate a university profile along with the ranking metrics, presenting a better-rounded picture of the university. Consider providing at least the minimally required data in the Overall section.
  2. Clarivate is the data provider for the Round University Ranking, a ranking of leading world higher education institutions. RUR uses 20 indicators across four key dimensions of university activities: teaching, research, international diversity and financial sustainability. RUR creates these metrics using Clarivate InCites data, including Institutional Profiles data. Supplying the minimally required data ensures that a profile is created for your university and metrics are available for the RUR Ranking.
  3. Clarivate InCites, which provides benchmarking and analysis for nearly 750 of the world’s leading universities using a combination of citation metrics from Web of Science™, factual information provided by participating institutions, and data from the annual Clarivate Academic Reputation Survey.

PROFILES PROJECT SUPPORT PAGES

The support pages contain a number of regional support documents, as well as subject mappings for various data collection systems. Together with existing materials such as the Data Collection Process Guidebooks, Frequently Asked Questions, and a printable list of data collection fields, these resources make this page a must-visit for all university data input representatives.

DATA PRE-POPULATION – United Kingdom Participants

In order to lighten the data collection burden for Profiles Project participants where possible, and to gather data that will be used for validation purposes, selected data fields will be pre-populated with third party sources such as UK-HESA. It is important that you review all pre-populated data. To promote consistency, we recommend that you maintain the pre-populated data, but you are not required to do so. A HESA data pre-population methodology guide is available upon request at Science.profilesproject@clarivate.com or directly from your regional data editor.

DATA PRE-POPULATION – United States Participants

IPEDS data will be used this year, but only for data validation purposes. Data collection accounts for the year “2016” will not be prepopulated with the data. Please submit data in accordance with the data definitions.

2018 ACADEMIC REPUTATION SURVEY

Together with our survey specialist, Ipsos Media CT, we have launched the Clarivate Academic Reputation Survey. The survey, which runs through end May 2018, allows academics worldwide, selected for geographic and disciplinary balance, to provide feedback about the teaching and research activities at universities regionally and around the globe. Due to privacy laws, we cannot provide specific survey recipient information, but we encourage you to spread the word about the survey. Survey invitations come from the domain:

clarivate@ts-productinfo.com

You may wish to contact your IT department to prevent the e-mails from being blocked by spam filters. Read more about the Reputation Survey at:
